Open Player Evaluations
Whatcom Prep Baseball is hosting Open Player Evaluations for boys interested in joining our program. We currently have roster openings on our 9U, 10U, 11U and 13U teams.
As part of this process, players are invited to participate in our Fall Ball training sessions free of charge. During these sessions, athletes will take part in skill development drills, live reps, and team-style workouts while being evaluated by our coaching staff.
This is more than a tryout, it’s a chance for players to experience our training environment, meet our coaches, and see what Whatcom Prep Baseball is all about.
Frequently Asked Questions
Ages
We offer competitive teams for players in the 9U through 14U age divisions. The cutoff date is May 1, 2026. Your player’s age on that date determines their eligible age group.
Example:
- A player turning 13 on/after May 1, 2026 is eligible for 12U
- A player turning 13 on/before April 30, 2026 must try out for 13U
Can Players Play Up?
We generally encourage players to compete within their age group, but exceptions may be made. During registration, you may request an evaluation for an older team. Coaches will assess your player for both their age group and the requested level to determine the best developmental fit. If you have questions about this, please reach out.
When does the season start and end?
Optional workouts and training opportunities are offered in the fall and winter to help players stay sharp and build skills.
Official team practices begin in February, with tournaments starting in March or April. The season typically runs through June or July.
When are practices and how often are they?
Whatcom Prep is committed to offering competitive baseball at an affordable cost. Player fees for the 2026 season are still being finalized and will be announced once teams are formed. Estimated 2026 players fees range from $1300 - $2400.
We provide a range of fundraising and sponsorship opportunities, with the majority of what each player raises applied directly to their own fees.
50% of all sponsorships go directly back to player fees.
We believe that cost should never be a barrier to participation. Scholarships are available for families in need—please contact us for more information.
What costs beyond player fees should be expected?
The only additional costs beyond registration fees are travel-related expenses for tournaments and games. Many events are within driving distance and do not require overnight hotel stays, though each team’s tournament schedule may vary. We make an effort to keep our younger teams closer to home.
Uniform jerseys are included in registration fees, but players are responsible for providing their own cleats, bat, glove, helmet, and bag. Catchers are expected to bring their own gear.
Some families may also choose to invest in one-on-one training or private lessons, but these are not required.
